Subject:            May 2010 Health Care Conference

New York City Metro InfraGard Members Alliance Inc is currently conducting research and development in the effort to develop a Spring 2010 Health Care Conference.

Our Chairperson for this conference has been announced and we are very happy to advise our members Dr Mark Jarrett will lead the development of this event.

Those members interested in exhibiting, offering presentations, white papers concerning the protection of data concerning medical records and other matters concerning advertising, marketing company services, etc. should contact our Floral Park Office ASAP.

Appropriate referrals will be sent to Dr Jarrett and his team for consideration of this most important conference as we prepare for the May event.

Thank you

I hosted a conference call this AM to start the development of the Healthcare Conference for May. There was clear agreement from everyone that medical cyber-security is a hot topic that should be discussed. There are several general areas to be reviewed:

  • General HIPPAA privacy issues
  • Medical Identity Theft
  • Encryption of email information between practitioners and patients
  • The potential for tampering or falsifying data
  • The problems of inter-operability between systems in the current market.

I have asked those on the phone to develop a little meat around these broad topics and to suggest any other topics. Also, I asked them to suggest potential speakers. We thought you would be able to help us with law enforcement, e.g. FBI.

Our target audience would be IT people in healthcare, hospital administrators, practitioners and law enforcement.

Ideally the conference would last most of a day and be held in NYC, probably at a hospital.

I asked everyone to get their suggestions to me by early next week. Although the time is short, we think May is doable, and will be able to confirm that in the next 2 weeks.

I will have another conference call next Thursday.

Thank you

The committee met once again and we tighten up some of the conference topics and other matters important to a successful conference.  Here's a small list of things we considered.

  • The Medical issues: why there need to be open records and easy
      accesibility.
  • A review of HIPAA rules etc.  This will set the stage
for the rest of the day - stating why the medical community unlike
others have a particular issue of security vs accessability
  • The Legal problems: General breach of security, ID theft, alteration of
information, and potential cyber-terrorism to cripple the health system.
This would have speakers from law enforcement, e.g. FBI
  • Practical issues: email between provder and patient, employee health
records, personal health records on the web (like microsoft health
vault): how do we address these problems
  • Social networking: the impact of facebook, etc
Industry viewpoint: panel discussion with representatives from several
      major vendors.
Major Announcement: The Committee has agreed to put the conference off until September 2010.

This will allow them to setup the venue, lock in speakers and get some vendor financial support to run the day.

Next meeting in two weeks. Venue selection expected by March 8th, 2010

Thank you
