From: NYC Alliance Operations TO: Membership And Sponsoring Organizations Subject: Planning for Network Security Event July 2010 (CTF-2) ****SEE UPDATE BELOW****
The New York City Metro InfraGard Members Alliance would like to welcome you to the second annual Capture the Flag event here in the heart of midtown Manhattan. We would once again partner with White Wolf Security, Inc., in order to accomplish this very special event for our members. We have a bit of hill to climb prior to establishing this event as a "GO". Herein we will offer as much possible information as we have at this point Venue/Dates: We have heard from Cisco Systems, Inc (NYC Office) and they have blocked out the week of July 12th for this event (Wednesday/Thursday). There offices are located at One Penn Plaza (34st/8th Ave). Those new to this event: it is a two day event. Day one defenders and attackers will be given some instruction and 30 minutes to an hour later the games begin. The idea is to capture one's environment, not to knock them off. Day two we start up the same as day one, but the interaction is "active" and the separating physical wall between attackers and defenders is removed. Day two is for learning attack metholodgies and defense strategies. Marketing Information: For those companies interested in sponsoring this event. This is a full packet captured event, pre-populated as a 10,000 person business enterprise with all the likely services and commom problems. Our event last year was extremely well received. We had seven teams consisting of five to seven members each defending there boxes. In room two we had 30-40 attackers attempting to take over ownership of the environments in the defending room. We have a control room for the game controllers, a visual map display, Law Enforcement and the full network operations. The event total attendance was approximately 80 people. They came in from the Banking, Academic, Public Agencies, and many other varied companies. This would be our second annual event. We will be conducting informational sessions prior to and afterwards demostrating tools and processes as well as structure. We would like to speak with your company so that we may better understand your needs and work with you to make this event a success for our members as well as for your company. Call us. Organized Teams: Yes, we will allow organized teams. But we want your commitment before the end of April, if possible, there is a fee involved if you plan on sending in a team. This way we can plan the event out and have plenty of time. There will be a charge per team, each member of the team will recieve our CTF 2010 golf shirt. There will be awards given out on day two for top defenders and top guns on the attack side. As additional information comes forth, we'll post it here so you can be as informed as possible. Thank you NY InfraGard Team NOTES: 4/1/2010: Positive feedback from 2009 attendees when asked if we should do this again. Ideally we would like federal, state and city agency involved and four private sector companies. One of the teams could be a mixed ad hoc private sector team....but that could prove to be difficult if not organized long before the event. UPDATE: May 28th, 2010 Members: Due to the lack of funding this event has been postponed to the fall 2010. While we search for possible funding. Let us know your thoughts. If we are to be successful we will need the funding pledged in advance (two to three months) so that we can get on the calendar of White Wolf Security. JRC |
