InfraGard began as a collaborative effort 1996 between the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Cleveland Field Office and SMEs from local industry and academia. This effort was designed to harness private sector expertise for investigative efforts in the cyber and physical security arenas.

Due to its immediate success, the program quickly expanded to other FBI Field Offices – leading the FBI to assign national program responsibility of InfraGard to FBI Headquarters in Washington DC and local program responsibility to each of the FBI’s 56 field offices.

In 2003, the private sector members of InfraGard formed the “InfraGard National Members Alliance” (INMA). The formalization of InfraGard’s private sector corporate structure allows the INMA and its member IMAs to engage federal, state, and local stakeholders in new and productive programs that are outside the purview of the FBI. This makes the program flexible and agile enough to meet the needs of a wide range of stakeholders in the public and private arena. The INMA currently has an MOU in place with DHS and is working closely with additional government entities.

The New York City Metro InfraGard Members Alliance is incorporated in New York State as a Not For Profit and registered with NYS Department of Education. Our incorporation was established during September of 2003 and later on that year, our organization became registered with the United Stated Department of the Treasury's Internal Revenue Service.

{IRS}. The IRS determined in November 2003 that we qualified as a 501 C3 organization.

Since our incorporation InfraGard in NYC has been providing outstanding leadership, management, information technology and related security training through its network of subject matter experts whom for the most part are secure members of the FBI's National InfraGard Program. Our blog established by Mr. John Tierney of our elected board which chronicles a number of these events and a fairly comprehensive compliation is present on our blog. During 2008 InfraGard in NYC sought to expand its offering by taking to the web to connect with its members and to extend the classroom of learning beyond a physical meeting venue. Live video streaming was first accomplished in April of 2008 wherein InfraGard for the first time nationally was at the US Ready and Law Enforcement Conference and during a six hour period interview a number of high ranking FBI leaders, CEO's from many other companies as well as book authors and others.

Today, InfraGard in NYC brings the national leadership of InfraGard Presidents together on weekly web casts and uses a wide variety of interactive technologies to conference with, connect with board members and to initiate additional contact with its members locally and nationally. Our New York vision is to bring InfraGard Online from concept to reality with your help and continued support, as usual.

We thank each of you for your expertise, encouragement, exercise of vision and for joining us. We couldn't do with out you our members. As we turn some new pages we know we can count on you to continue your support, provide feedback and to instill upon all of us a sense of purpose, a sense of commitment and a steadfast loyalty to the protection of our nation, the greatest place on the face of this earth!

Lastly, our history wouldn't be complete if we didn't mention our partners, the FBI. At every turn the FBI has supported and frankly gone out of there way to assist us in NYC as we have grown. From ADIC to ADIC, Coordinator to Coordinator the FBI stands tall and stands with the InfraGard Program and its NYC Alliance.

The FBI needs membership support. That's why we asked each of to communicate with our InfraGard Coordinator. Call the FBI at 1-212-384-1000 and let them know your an InfraGard member and ask to speak to the InfraGard Coordinator.  SA James Capozzi is the NYC FBI InfraGard Coordinator {updated 9/2011}
